• West Marina is the Hawaiʻi Kai side around Lunalilo Home Road and Hawaiʻi Kai Drive, on the water the whole area is named for. That water is man-made. Dredging of Kuapā Pond — an ancient Maunalua fishpond — began around 1959, and in 1961 Kaiser-Aetna leased 521 acres from the Bishop Estate to cut it into channels and fingers of land. Which is why so many homes here end at a dock. source
