- Māʻili means pebbly, after the rounded stones at the shore. It sits on Farrington Highway between Māʻili Beach Park and Lualualei Valley — 1.4 miles south of Waiʻanae town, 1.5 miles north of Nānākuli, at an elevation of 20 feet. The beach park is forty acres with a lifeguard tower, a playground and two named surf spots: Green Lanterns at the mouth of the stream and Tumbleland in the middle. Calm in summer, serious in winter. The two red antennae you can see from everywhere belong to the Navy's radio transmitting facility; at 1,503 feet they were the tallest structures in the Western Hemisphere when they went up in 1972. source
