- Hoʻopili is being built on about 1,550 acres of former sugarcane land in the ʻEwa District, bought from the James Campbell Estate in 2006. It broke ground in September 2016 and the first homes were finished in the summer of 2017, with a full buildout estimated at twenty to thirty years — which means some of your neighbors will arrive long after you do. The plan sets aside roughly 70 acres for parks and about 200 acres for commercial farms and community gardens, and calls for five DOE schools. Hoʻopili has its own Skyline station, which makes it one of the very few places on the island planned around rail from the start. Kapili is one of its sub-neighborhoods. The ZIP code says ʻEwa Beach; most people say East Kapolei. source
